On the occasion of Vat Amavasya, thousands of devotees took a holy dip in the Ganges on Har Ki Pauri Ghat in Haridwar yesterday. Large crowds flocked through markets and parking spots. With the opening of the market at Har Ki Pauri, people violated social distancing at large. Many devotees didn’t wear face masks. After 56 days, people in such large numbers gathered in Haridwar.
On Thursday morning, several devotees reached Haridwar for bathing in the Ganges. Around 400 vehicles arrived at the Pandit Din Dayal Upadhyay parking lot. The markets around Har Ki Pauri were open without permission. The police maintained total leniency from morning till 1 PM, after which the markets were closed.
