CM Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurates Tehri Lake Festival 2021

To be organized every year on Basant Panchmi

The Tehri Lake Festival 2021 was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat at Koti Colony, Tehri, on Tuesday. The event was commemorated with the welcoming and seeking blessings of the Dev Doli.

Addressing the public at the festival, CM Rawat, said, “Tehri Lake Festival is being organized to promote tourism activities and mark the presence of Uttarakhand at the international level.”

During the inauguration ceremony, the CM informed that an International Vedic School will be established on the banks of the Bhagirathi river in Tehri, where along with English and Hindi, students will be trained in the Sanskrit language as well. With this initiative, people from all over the world will have the opportunity to gain knowledge of Indian culture.

Congratulating the attendees on the occasion of Basant Panchmi, the Chief Minister also announced that from now onwards, the Tehri Lake Festival will be organized every year on the day of Basant Panchami. He further said that due to the recent disaster in Chamoli, there was confusion about whether the festival should be organized this year or not, but was eventually organized along with fighting the disaster. He paid his respectful condolences to the people who lost their lives in the Chamoli disaster.

The Chief Minister further told that the residents of Pratap Nagar have, in past, faced a lot of problems, but the government provided them with a motorable bridge – Dobra Chanti, which eased their lives. The construction of the bridge has also eased the lives of tourists and residents of Uttarkashi. Tehri is being developed with the vision of making it a paradise for tourists, and developmental works worth Rs. 1210 crore is underway for the same.

Agriculture Minister Subodh Uniyal informed that many local people have got employment due to the Tehri Lake Festival. The water sports facilities in Tehri are unmatchable and are nowhere in India. Tehri Lake will be established as an international destination in the upcoming years.

Various adventure sports and activities, such as paragliding, paramotor, parasailing boat, scuba diving, hot air balloon, kayaking, canoeing, high course, rock climbing, gumming rappelling, and terrain biking, are being organized at Tehri Lake Festival 2021.

Keeping in mind the resolution of self-reliant Uttarakhand, several stalls of native products, crafts, handicrafts items, forest department products, wooden items, organic products, were also set up at the festival by the women self-help communities.

A two-day photography competition is being organized by the Department of Tourism and District Administration in the Tehri Lake Festival. Along with this, photo exhibitions and award ceremonies were also organized at the festival.

On this occasion, Minister of State, Independent Charge Dhan Singh Rawat, MLA Dhan Singh Negi, District Panchayat President Sona Sajwan, Secretary Tourism Dilip Jawalkar, Additional Secretary Adventure Wing Colonel Ashwin Pundir, District Magistrate Tehri Eva Ashish Shrivastava, Additional Director Tourism Poonam Chand, and other officials were also present during the event.
