In a strategic move to enhance security along its borders with China and Nepal, the Uttarakhand police department has proposed the establishment of 16 new police posts. This initiative aims to curb infiltration and strengthen security across five development blocks in Pithoragarh, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi. The proposal has been submitted to the government, and the department is poised to act promptly upon approval.

Addressing Migration and Security Concerns

Border villages in Pithoragarh, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi face significant migration challenges, raising concerns about potential infiltration. In response, the central government plans to include 51 border villages in the Vibrant Village Scheme, focusing on economic reforms, livelihood development, infrastructure enhancement, and skill development. This initiative seeks to provide local youth with employment opportunities to curb migration and encourage reverse migration.

Enhanced Border Vigilance

The new police posts will facilitate timely information exchange on suspicious activities along the border. Equipped with wireless and repeater sets, these posts will ensure robust communication. Uttarakhand shares a 658 km border with China and Nepal, making these measures critical for national security. The central government’s strategy underscores the importance of stabilizing border populations to mitigate infiltration risks.

Proposed Police Posts Locations

The proposed police posts will be established in the following villages:

Pithoragarh: 26 villages

Chamoli: 14 villages

Uttarkashi: 11 villages

The swift implementation of these posts is expected to significantly enhance border security and address migration issues, contributing to the overall safety and development of the region.
