Raghavi Bisht, a young cricket sensation from Uttarakhand, has brought immense pride to her state by securing a spot in the Indian women’s cricket team. Known for her record-breaking double century in the Women’s Under-19 ODI tournament in 2022, Raghavi’s selection marks a significant milestone in her burgeoning cricket career.
Hailing from Changora village in Tehri district, Raghavi now lives with her maternal grandparents in Dehradun. Her selection places her among the 18 players in the Indian squad, poised to play ODI and T20 matches against Australia starting August 7.
Raghavi’s journey began with gulli cricket, where she played with boys. Her formal cricket training commenced in 2016, and she quickly advanced to the state team. “Playing for the country is a dream for any player. My goal now is to lead the team to victory,” she shared. Her parents, Anand Singh Bisht and Neelam Bisht are businessmen residing in Japan.
In the 2022 Under-19 ODI tournament against Nagaland, Raghavi’s fierce batting led to a remarkable 219-run inning. Her 234-run partnership with Neelam for the first wicket remains a record. Beyond this, she has consistently showcased her batting prowess in various tournaments.
Raghavi idolizes Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, having learned to master the pull shot by watching his gameplay.
Prior to Raghavi, cricketer Sneh Rana made headlines by taking 10 wickets in an international women’s cricket match against South Africa earlier this year.
Raghavi Bisht’s selection to the Indian team not only underscores her talent but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes from Uttarakhand and beyond.
