In a landmark development for Uttarakhand’s capital, Dehradun’s traffic system is set for a revolutionary upgrade. The city will soon see the construction of a 26-kilometre elevated road over the Rispana and Bindal rivers, which will connect directly to a National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) proposed elevated corridor between Mohkampur and Asharodi. This integrated network is designed to ease city congestion and offer a smooth bypass route for tourists and travellers heading toward Mussoorie.

According to recent updates, the Rispana-Bindal elevated road will not start from a ground-level road but from another elevated road in the air. This connection will be part of the already proposed elevated road from Mohkampur ROB (Railway Over Bridge) to Asharodi, for which the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is in its final stages.

Travellers from Delhi will enter Dehradun via the 12-kilometre elevated stretch from Ganeshpur (Saharanpur) to Datkali, built through forest zones. After exiting the Datkali tunnel, they will ascend a flyover that leads directly to the upcoming elevated corridor over the Rispana and Bindal rivers. Those heading to Mussoorie will be able to bypass the city entirely, avoiding the usual urban traffic congestion.

Sources from NHAI and the Public Works Department (PWD) revealed that two major interchanges are planned near the Kargi and Rispana bridge areas to link these elevated roads. This means that travellers from Delhi can reach the Mussoorie road “in the air,” without ever entering Dehradun’s city roads.

The project gained momentum after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to request central assistance for the Rispana-Bindal corridor. If the state government completes land acquisition and utility shifting, NHAI is expected to take up the construction.

The comprehensive connectivity will rest on three elevated corridors:

  1. Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Elevated Stretch: A 12-km, ₹1500 crore project from Ganeshpur to Datkali, already constructed with 575 pillars, awaiting operational clearance.
  2. Mohkampur to Asharodi Elevated Road: A proposed ₹1100 crore project currently in the DPR stage.
  3. Rispana-Bindal Elevated Road: A ₹6200 crore corridor undergoing land acquisition and infrastructure alignment.

Together, these three routes promise a congestion-free and time-efficient journey from Delhi to Mussoorie, transforming the regional travel experience.
