Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, speaking at the 12th convocation ceremony of Graphic Era Deemed University on Tuesday, addressed Dehradun’s pressing traffic concerns with a bold and visionary proposal. He announced his willingness to introduce an “aerial double-decker bus” system in the city to ease congestion, provided the state government sends a proposal.

“I usually fly into Dehradun, but this time I travelled by road and experienced firsthand how severe the traffic problem is,” Gadkari remarked. He noted that Graphic Era’s Founder and President Dr. Kamal Ghanshala also highlighted the issue to him. “That’s why I have a dream—if Chief Minister Dhami sends a proposal, I’ll get an aerial double-decker bus system started in Dehradun,” he added, envisioning a transport model where 125–150 passengers could travel above ground, bypassing the traffic below.

The Union Minister emphasized that no dream is too big if we truly understand the problems and work towards innovative solutions.

In his address, Gadkari also stressed the importance of decision-making in governance. “We have many knowledgeable and capable people in the government, but many do not take decisions. What’s the point of such capability if it doesn’t lead to action?” he questioned. He advocated for performance audits alongside financial audits and suggested that non-performing officials and employees should be removed for better governance.

Highlighting the essence of true knowledge, Gadkari said, “Knowledge without humanity is incomplete. If we don’t feel love or empathy upon seeing others’ suffering, then our education is of no use.” He underlined that real success lies in making others happy—be it family, friends, or society—and that such success comes only through teamwork and compassion.
