Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to implement an innovative initiative aimed at empowering meritorious students across the state. Under this program, the top-performing students from high school and intermediate levels in each district will be given the opportunity to act as honorary District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police for one day.
The objective behind this initiative is to provide bright students with administrative exposure, instill confidence, and inspire them to aim for higher goals. CM Dhami emphasized that this symbolic leadership role would help students understand the functioning of the administrative machinery and motivate them to pursue civil services and other leadership roles in the future. A detailed action plan is currently being formulated to roll out the scheme across all districts soon.
In another key announcement aimed at promoting environmental awareness, CM Dhami also instructed departments to organize “River Festivals” on the banks of major rivers across the state. These festivals will be named after the respective rivers and will aim to promote community participation in river cleanliness, rejuvenation, and conservation.
Highlighting the cultural and ecological significance of rivers, the Chief Minister said that rivers are not just water sources but integral to the state’s culture and way of life. Through the River Festival initiative, the government seeks to transform the campaign for river cleanliness and water conservation into a mass movement, raising public awareness and involvement in protecting Uttarakhand’s vital natural resources.
