Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Uttarakhand; Pre-Monsoon Showers to Continue

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued pre-monsoon activity in Uttarakhand, with a yellow alert issued for heavy rainfall in the districts of Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. Several other parts of the state are also expected to experience light to moderate showers accompanied by thunder and lightning.

According to the IMD, rain is likely at many places in Uttarkashi, Haridwar, and Udham Singh Nagar on Wednesday. Dehradun and its surrounding areas experienced light to moderate rainfall on Monday, which helped maintain temperatures near normal levels.

In Dehradun, areas such as Maldevta, Raipur, Sarkhet, Sahastradhara, Garhi Cantt, Premnagar, Kandoli, Bidholi, and Jhajhra received moderate rain, while ISBT, Patelnagar, Kargi, Banjarawala, and Dharampur saw light showers. Jolly Grant and Raiwala recorded 20–21 mm of rainfall in the afternoon.

Temperature readings across key locations in the state were as follows:

  • Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 34.7°C (1°C above normal) and a minimum of 24.5°C.
  • Pantnagar recorded a maximum of 35.5°C (1°C below normal) and a minimum of 25.5°C.
  • Mukteshwar reported a maximum of 23.0°C and a minimum of 15.8°C.
  • Tehri recorded a cooler day with a maximum of 24.6°C (3°C below normal) and a minimum of 17.6°C.

Director of the Meteorological Centre, Bikram Singh, stated that pre-monsoon rainfall is expected to continue for the next two days. Due to the possibility of isolated heavy rain in Bageshwar and Pithoragarh, a yellow alert has been issued. Moderate rainfall is also expected in other districts across the state.
