The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) has issued a cautionary letter to all district magistrates following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of heavy rainfall until September 2. A yellow alert has been sounded across multiple districts, warning of possible flooding and urging authorities to take preventive measures.

The SEOC has specifically alerted district administrations in Almora, Dehradun, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Pauri Garhwal, Nainital, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh regarding the heightened flood risk. According to the Hydromet Division of the IMD, heavy downpours in the next 24 hours could lead to waterlogging and flash floods in vulnerable areas.

Officials noted that water levels in several rivers have already risen above warning and danger marks. The Central Water Commission (Himalayan Ganga Division) reported that the Song and Ganga rivers in Dehradun, Alaknanda at Srinagar and Rudraprayag, and the Kosi at Betalghat are currently flowing above warning levels. Similarly, the Ramganga, Gauri Ganga at Bangapani, and Dhauliganga at Kanjyoti in Pithoragarh have also crossed critical thresholds.

The situation is more severe in certain stretches where rivers have surpassed danger marks. These include the Saryu in Pithoragarh, the Aglar in Tehri Garhwal, and the Alaknanda, Bhagirathi, and Ganga in Pauri and Tehri Garhwal. In Rudraprayag, both the Alaknanda and Mandakini are flowing above danger levels.

Authorities have been instructed to remain on high alert, ensure strict monitoring of river basins, and initiate precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property.
