Continuous heavy rains in Kumaon, Uttarakhand have led to a significant landslide near Swanla on the National Highway (NH), resulting in the disruption of traffic and stranding around 300 passengers.

The landslide brought debris onto the highway, making it impassable. Consequently, vehicles heading towards Champawat have been halted at Kakarali Gate in Tanakpur as a precautionary measure.

Tanakpur Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Akash Joshi, along with his team, is on the scene providing relief to the stranded passengers. Essential supplies, including food packets, water bottles, and biscuits, are distributed to those affected. Patwari, the Supply Inspector, and PRD jawans are ensuring that food items reach each vehicle.

The Kakarali Gate and Chalthi Gate were closed around 12:30 PM and will remain shut until the debris is cleared and the road is deemed safe for travel. Authorities are prioritizing the safety and well-being of all passengers.

Efforts are ongoing to clear the debris and restore normal traffic flow. In the meantime, the administration is committed to taking comprehensive care of the stranded passengers.
