To make Tehri Lake a world-class tourist destination, the government has taken another promising step. Along the lines of Kashmir’s Dal Lake and Goa, Tehri Lake will soon offer similar facilities, such as Shikara, cruise ship, scuba diving, parasailing, and flyboat to the tourists. Tehri Special Area Tourism Development Authority (TADA) has already started preparations for conducting these activities.
TADA has sought applications to be submitted by March 31 to operate five Shikaras, one scuba diving, two parasailing, two fly boats, and three cruise ships in the lake around Koti Colony. The authorities informed that licenses for the same will be issued only to experienced persons, prioritizing those affected by the Tehri Dam development.
At present, water sport activities such as Jetski, Jet Attack, Power Boat, and Speed Boat, which are 100 in number, are being operated in Tehri Lake. Nearly 200 local people are earning their livelihood through these activities.
