Manifesting the spirit of women empowerment by the state government, Corbett National Park in Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, will soon become the first national park in the country to conduct wildlife and jungle safaris by female drivers. For the same, the department has invited applications for the recruitment of women drivers. So far, nearly 60 applications have been received.
To date, 250 private gypsies have been registered for conducting safaris for tourists. After this initiative, 50 women will be joining as gypsy drivers in Corbett National Park. Apart from female drivers, five female guides have also been employed in the national park.
After the selection process completes, the selected candidates will receive training from a driving school. Once thoroughly proficient in driving a vehicle and obtaining a driving license, the lady drivers will also be offered a loan to buy a gypsy under the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Yojana.
