A red alert has been declared across Uttarakhand after the Indian Army launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan, in retaliation to the recent attack in Pahalgam. Director General of Police Deepam Seth confirmed the alert and said security measures have been intensified at sensitive locations throughout the state.
Vigilance has been ramped up at airports, railway stations, AIIMS hospital, defence installations, and other critical infrastructure. Emergency drills are being conducted at these locations to ensure preparedness. In a major development, one suspect was detained in Roorkee on Tuesday night near the military area.
Security operations began early in the morning, with joint teams of Uttarakhand Police and paramilitary forces conducting widespread searches in urban and rural regions. Verification drives are ongoing across all police jurisdictions, particularly targeting individuals outside the area. Several people have been taken in for questioning.
In Haridwar, additional forces, including personnel from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), have been deployed at the Char Dham registration centres, Har Ki Pauri, and the railway station. Surveillance has been intensified, and the security grid has been tightened across the city.
In Roorkee, police have set up multiple checkpoints across the city and its outskirts, including areas like Rampur Chungi, Teliwala Phatak, and Sohalpur Tiraha. Railway stations and local hotels are also under strict watch. Separate police teams are conducting checks in other nearby regions such as Bhagwanpur, Mangalore, and Kaliyar.
The detained suspect is reportedly a resident of Bihar. He was apprehended late Tuesday night by Army personnel patrolling the Roorkee cantonment area. After preliminary questioning by military intelligence through the night, the individual was handed over to the Civil Lines Police Station on Wednesday afternoon. According to Sub-Inspector Vinod Thapliyal, further information will be shared after thorough interrogation.
