The district enforcement team of Dehradun has uncovered a startling modus operandi involving the illegal delivery of foreign liquor using food delivery platform bags. In a major crackdown, the team seized a significant consignment of high-end liquor meant for sale exclusively in Haryana.

Acting on a tip-off, the excise department raided the residence of Akhil Bansal, a native of Saharanpur, and recovered a total of 46 bottles of premium foreign liquor from his possession. The seized brands included Black Dog, Black & White, and Absolut Vodka — all bearing labels marked “For Sale in Haryana Only.”

During interrogation, the accused confessed to transporting and delivering these bottles across different localities in Dehradun using delivery bags from Zomato and Blinkit to avoid suspicion. This clever disguise allowed him to move contraband alcohol under the pretence of regular food deliveries.

Following the bust, the excise team filed a case against the accused under Section 63 of the Excise Act. He has been arrested and is being brought to court for further legal action.

The operation was led by Excise Inspector Prerna Bisht, along with Sub-Inspector Umrao Rathore, and Constables Rakesh, Hemant, and Govind.

Authorities are now probing deeper into the network to identify others potentially involved in this illegal distribution ring. The incident has raised serious concerns about the misuse of delivery platforms and has prompted calls for tighter monitoring of delivery personnel and packages.
