Abhimanyu Easwaran, who first learned the art of cricket in Dehradun, has earned a spot in the 18-member Indian Test squad for the upcoming England tour. The team will be led by Shubman Gill, while left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been named the vice-captain.

Abhimanyu’s cricketing journey began in Dehradun, where he learned the fundamentals under the watchful eye of his father, CA R.P. Easwaran. His father established the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy in Guniyal village, Dehradun, specifically to nurture his son’s talent. At the age of 10, Abhimanyu moved to Bengal, where he played domestic cricket for several years and went on to become the captain of the Bengal team.

One of the standout moments in his career came during the 2022 Ranji Trophy match, where he scored an unbeaten 141 runs against his home state, Uttarakhand while leading Bengal. What made it even more special was that the match was played on the very ground in Dehradun established by his father.

A major turning point in Abhimanyu’s career was during the 2013–14 Ranji Trophy quarterfinals when he stitched a crucial 163-run partnership with Sudip Chatterjee, showcasing his resilience and skill under pressure. He made his T20 debut for Bengal in the 2016–17 Inter-State T20 Tournament and later participated in the Deodhar Trophy, further solidifying his position as a dependable batsman.

In the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy, Abhimanyu was selected for the Red team and impressed once again by scoring a commanding 153 runs in the final against the Green team.

With his inclusion in the Indian squad for the England tour, celebrations have erupted at the Easwaran household in Dehradun. It marks yet another milestone in a journey that has been built on dedication, consistency, and strong family support.

Abhimanyu Easwaran’s story serves as an inspiration for many young cricketers from smaller towns, proving that with the right guidance and hard work, reaching the international stage is well within reach.
