Dehradun continues to witness a rise in both COVID-19 and dengue infections. On Monday, three new COVID-19 cases were detected in the city — one through a private lab, another at AIIMS Rishikesh, and the third at Max Hospital. So far, 139 people have been tested, out of which 16 have tested positive for COVID-19.
In parallel, the health department also confirmed two new dengue cases. These cases were identified after ELISA tests were conducted on 65 suspected patients. One patient is currently admitted at SMI Hospital and the other at Graphic Era. The total number of dengue cases reported this season has now reached 76, with 44 from Dehradun city and 32 from surrounding areas. While 68 patients have recovered, eight are still hospitalized.
Health officials are attributing the spike in mosquito-borne diseases to the early onset of monsoon rains. Water stagnation in various parts of the city has created ideal conditions for mosquito larvae to thrive. In a citywide survey conducted on Monday, dengue larvae were found in 63 spots across 54 homes, out of 17,398 households surveyed. So far, larvae have been detected in 1,655 homes since the beginning of the season.
Dr. C.S. Rawat, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), emphasized the need for extra caution. “With the rains arriving earlier than usual, the weather has become highly conducive for the spread of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and malaria. Survey teams have been directed to maintain heightened alertness,” he stated.
The civic authorities and health department are closely monitoring the situation and urging residents to ensure proper sanitation and avoid water accumulation around their premises.
