To strengthen the quality and appeal of government education in Uttarakhand, the state government has decided to establish English-medium schools in every block. The announcement was made by Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat during the foundation stone laying ceremony of new residential buildings and the Directorate of Education gate at the SCERT campus.

The Education Minister revealed that a key reason for declining student enrolment in government schools is the growing demand among parents for English-medium education and the availability of subject-specific teachers. “I had sought a report from the department on falling student numbers. It showed that many parents want their children to study in English-medium schools, while others were concerned about the absence of subject teachers,” he stated.

To address these concerns, the department will not only start English-medium schools across all blocks but also initiate the recruitment of 2,000 teachers to fill key vacancies. Dr. Rawat also emphasized the need for accountability and transparency within the education system. As part of this, teachers and officials alike will now be required to mark their attendance online.

Earlier in the event, Dr. Rawat laid the foundation stone for construction projects worth ₹486 lakh at the SCERT premises.

The program was attended by several key dignitaries including MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, SCERT Director Vandana Gabyal, Director of Secondary Education Dr. Mukul Sati, Director of Primary Education Ajay Naudiyal, Director of Sanskrit Education Anand Bhardwaj, and Padmendra Saklani.
