As monsoon intensifies across Uttarakhand, the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has gone on high alert to maintain uninterrupted electricity supply and prevent accidents caused by electrical hazards during the rainy season.
Managing Director of UPCL, Anil Kumar, has issued a public advisory urging people to take extra precautions during the monsoon. He specifically warned against touching electric poles during rains and advised people not to tie animals to electric poles or conduct any public gatherings underneath overhead power lines.
He further emphasized maintaining a safe distance from electric lines while constructing new buildings and while tilling land, especially where poles are installed near field boundaries.
In case of sparking or any visible damage to poles, the public has been advised to immediately inform the nearest substation. People have also been cautioned to avoid walking through waterlogged areas if there is visible sparking on nearby poles. Climbing trees near power lines has also been strongly discouraged.
For home safety, MD Anil Kumar stressed the importance of proper earthing in household electrical fittings. Considering the possibility of emergencies, he also instructed that all four Char Dham routes be stocked with essential materials such as conductors, cables, poles, and transformers to ensure quick response in case of any power disruption.
