The first case of the Delta Plus variant of COVID-19 was found on Wednesday in Dineshpur town of Udham Singh Nagar district in Uttarakhand.

Rohit Singh, a resident of Balrampur Government Hospital campus in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, had come to visit his uncle in Dineshpur. He was tested for COVID-19 at CHC Gadarpur on May 29.

Rohit’s rapid antigen test report came out as positive, and he was put into home isolation. Rohit’s RT-PCR sample was sent to NCDC Lab Delhi for testing. His test report reached the CMO office on Tuesday evening, and hence, the Delta Plus variant was confirmed.

After the reports confirming the Delta Plus variant, the authorities reached Rohit’s uncle’s house and found out Rohit had already returned to Lucknow after recovering.

Following this, health workers took samples of 40 people from the surrounding area, along with all the family members of Rohit’s uncle. The area has been converted into a containment zone. A team of Health Department has also been sent to Dineshpur.
