Authorities act swiftly after inquiry confirms unauthorized construction on government land in Dehradun
A mazaar illegally built on the premises of Doon Hospital in Dehradun was demolished after a formal complaint was lodged on the CM Helpline portal. The action came after Pankaj Gupta, a resident of Rishikesh, flagged concerns regarding the unauthorized structure occupying government land.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Dehradun District Magistrate (DM) ordered a thorough investigation involving multiple departments, including the Revenue Department, Municipal Corporation, Public Works Department (PWD), and Doon Hospital Administration. Officials reviewed land records and departmental documents to verify the ownership, permissions, and legal status of the mazaar.
The investigation confirmed that the structure was indeed illegally constructed without requisite permissions. A notice was issued to the Khadim (caretaker) of the mazaar before proceeding with the demolition. Reports from the hospital administration had earlier highlighted the mazaar’s interference with hospital operations and had requested government intervention.
The situation also triggered debate among Dehradun residents, with some describing the structure as a “Fakir” site and others raising concerns about its alleged misuse for commercial activities.
To execute the demolition, authorities sealed the hospital road late at night and deployed police personnel to ensure a smooth operation. A joint team from the Municipal Corporation, PWD, Doon Hospital Administration, and District Administration used a bulldozer to remove the structure.
Officials emphasized that the action was taken in full compliance with legal procedures, and the cleared land has now been secured to prevent any future encroachment.
