Uttarakhand is currently experiencing a spell of intense rainfall, which is providing respite from the rising temperatures that have gripped the region. The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for several districts, cautioning residents and travellers of strong winds and thunderstorms expected to continue until May 5.
According to the latest forecast from the Meteorological Centre, weather conditions will remain unstable over the next few days. On Friday, moderate to heavy rainfall was reported in Dehradun and other hilly districts. The forecast also includes warnings of lightning and strong surface winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour across the state.
Meteorologists attribute the ongoing weather activity to an active Western Disturbance, which is influencing the regional climate. As a result, temperatures are expected to drop, particularly in the mountainous areas, providing temporary relief from the prevailing heat.
Authorities have advised travellers, especially those heading towards the hill regions or undertaking the Char Dham Yatra, to exercise caution. The unpredictable weather could bring back a chill in the air, making it necessary to carry warm clothing and stay updated with local weather reports before setting out.
Bikram Singh, Director of the Meteorological Centre, stated that the active Western Disturbance is the main reason behind the changing weather. “Till May 5, the state will continue to experience fluctuating weather, including lightning, gusty winds, and intermittent showers, which may cause inconvenience in certain areas,” he added.
The administration has urged people to remain alert and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of unstable weather.
