In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the Uttarakhand government has launched a strategic framework titled “Wed in Uttarakhand” to transform the state into a premier domestic and international wedding tourism destination. The initiative aims to blend the state’s cultural richness, natural beauty, and modern amenities to create a unique wedding experience while boosting local employment and strengthening the economy.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Secretary of Tourism Sachin Kurve has released the framework which includes the formation of a State-level Wedding Tourism Development Committee to oversee implementation, monitor progress, and address challenges.

To streamline operations, the state will develop a single-window portal providing access to licenses, permits, regulations, and other essential services related to wedding planning. The portal will also standardize certification and empanelment processes for venues, service providers, and tour operators. Guidelines concerning noise control, waste management, and environmental protection will be strictly enforced in coordination with relevant departments.

The initiative will also identify and develop hidden and emerging destinations, ensuring connectivity through road, rail, air, and digital infrastructure. Accommodations ranging from luxury hotels and resorts to temporary tented setups will be expanded, with support from the private sector.

Ideal locations for weddings – such as riverside spots in Rishikesh, mountain resorts in Mussoorie, and heritage properties in Almora – will be promoted through curated marketing content showcasing the state’s cultural and scenic charm.

Themed wedding packages such as adventure weddings, spiritual weddings, eco-friendly weddings, and traditional Garhwali or Kumaoni weddings will be offered, focusing on immersive cultural experiences. These packages will be supported by the creation of experiential tourism clusters, highlighting the mythological and historical significance of each location. Orientation trips for event planners, travel agents, and wedding management companies will also be organized to promote potential destinations.

With the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board as the nodal agency and support from GMVN and KMVN, this initiative is poised to redefine wedding tourism in India, putting Uttarakhand firmly on the global map of unforgettable wedding experiences.
