Uttarakhand is likely to experience a spell of intense heat before the arrival of the monsoon, which is expected to reach the state six days earlier than usual. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather across the state will remain dry until June 10, resulting in rising temperatures and increased discomfort, particularly in the plains.
Although the rain in the first week of June offered some relief, clear skies and strong sunshine have brought back the heat, with both maximum and minimum temperatures hovering close to normal. On Saturday, Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4°C, one degree above normal, while the minimum dropped slightly to 21.7°C.
Weather officials noted that while hilly areas will also feel the heat during the daytime, the plains are expected to be more severely affected. The Director of the Meteorological Department, Bikram Singh, stated that temperatures may rise further in the coming days as the region heads into a dry spell before the monsoon’s anticipated arrival on June 11.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun as the heatwave conditions intensify in the run-up to the monsoon.
