Uttarakhand is once again bracing for a change in weather, with the Meteorological Centre issuing an orange alert for heavy rain and hailstorm activity in various mountainous regions. As per the forecast released by the department, districts like Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh are likely to witness intense spells of rainfall, hail, and winds on Monday.
In addition to these, other districts may experience light rainfall. Meteorologists attribute this shift in weather patterns to the active western disturbance affecting the region. Due to this, a yellow alert has also been issued for May 19 in select areas of Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Almora, Champawat, and Nainital districts. These areas are expected to receive hailstorms along with strong winds blowing at a speed of 40 to 50 km/h.
Looking ahead, similar weather conditions are likely to persist across the state on May 20. A slight respite is expected on May 21, though May 22 could again bring strong winds to most parts of the state.
Despite partial cloud cover keeping daytime temperatures around normal levels, residents, particularly in Dehradun, have been facing discomfort due to persistent heat over the past five days. Meteorologists suggest that the ongoing heat and humidity will only ease after the expected rainfall. On Sunday, Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 35.5°C, which is within the normal range, while the minimum temperature was 22.6°C, one degree above normal. A similar pattern was observed across other regions of the state, where cloudy skies and winds helped maintain normal daytime temperatures, but nighttime lows were recorded 1–3°C above average.
